Black 90s kids and adults rejoiced as Hulu announced sometime last year that the FOX hit series Living Single would be coming to it’s streaming service. I also rejoiced even though I had already purchased four of the five seasons on iTunes. The Queen Latifah-led ensemble comedy followed six adulting friends in 1990s New York. From Latifah’s magainze-owning Khadijah, to Kim Fields’s boughetto Regine, there was a character and episode for everybody.
What makes this show so spectacular is the fact it upholds today. The jokes are still funny and not as problematic (Martin), and the commentary on many issues – then progressive as hell – remain relevant. While we would like the 90s kinda world to stay there, talks of a reboot have been swirling. I guess it wouldn’t be too bad to see how everyone – excluding Tripp – is doing.
