Everyone knows the state of R&B music is in a transitional period. With hip-hop influencing popular music in general, rhythm and blues has become harder to detect. At least the version I grew up with. Strong vocals paired with competent lyrics and bridges. That’s why I was taken aback by this song from a literal unknown named JeRonelle.
Appearing on that hype machine talent show The Four, I first got word of the vocalist via word of mouth. It seems to be the only way true R&B lovers discover new talent. Everything from his tone to the song’s content felt like pairing the new with the traditional. It felt like home.
